Shyvette Williams
Shyvette Williams is an artist born in New Orleans, Louisiana and based in Chicago. After receiving her education through the Chicago Public School system, she was awarded scholarships to study Fashion Illustration at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. A talented artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, and sculpture, Williams has exhibited her work at the Bridgeport Art Center, Prairie State College, Little Black Pearl, Woman Made Gallery, and Gordon Robichaux Gallery in New York. She is also featured in David Weathersby’s award-winning documentary The Color of Art. Williams’s artwork has also been published in several exhibition catalogs including Hyde Park Art Center’s Not Just Another Pretty Face, Diasporal Rhythms’ A 10-Year Love Affair, and the Sapphire and Crystals FORWARD exhibition catalog. She leads a truly creative life with experience as an interior decorator, runway model, theater costume designer, book illustrator, and painter. Williams’s use of found materials, specifically wood and reflective glass objects allow the viewer to be confronted with the fragments of themselves, and without that kind of introspection, she believes, we become lost in a world of mere things.
