Felicia Grant Preston
Self-proclaimed “colorist” Felicia Grant Preston (born 1953) received early encouragement from parents and teachers who noticed her talents when she was still a young child. Born and raised in Chicago, she received her BA in art from Southern Illinois University in 1976, an MS in Education from Northern Illinois University in 1979, and an MA from Chicago State University in 2003. Her work has been exhibited locally at the Hyde Park Art Center, the South Side Community Art Center, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, as well as nationally at The Arsenal Gallery in New York, Vaughn Cultural Center in St. Louis Missouri, The Art Exchange Gallery in Detroit Michigan, The Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah Georgia, and Art Jaz Gallery in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. She has also received awards from the Illinois Service Federal Savings, the The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Preston fundamentally believes that art holds healing capacity and that her passion for creativity flows through her from God. Though she has retired from her career as an art instructor, she continues to create mixed-media collage work and paintings that reflect her deep spirituality, her identity as a Black woman, and her love of color.
